# Which AI app should I use with ChatSyncs?

> A side-by-side comparison of the AI apps that can connect to ChatSyncs through MCP (Claude, ChatGPT, Claude Code, OpenAI Codex, Cursor, Gemini CLI, VS Code with GitHub Copilot and others), showing the plan each needs, how you sign in, and how hard setup is. Use when a customer asks which AI assistant works with ChatSyncs, whether their ChatGPT or Claude plan is enough, or which app is easiest for a non-technical user.

If you're not technical, **use Claude or ChatGPT in your web browser**. You never touch a file or
a terminal: you add ChatSyncs in the app's settings, paste your API key on a ChatSyncs page, and
start asking.

The other apps are for people who already use them for coding.

## Comparison

**How you sign in:**

* **Browser sign-in.** The app opens a ChatSyncs page, you paste your API key there, and the app
  stores it safely. This is the recommended way.
* **Key in settings.** You paste the key into the app's own settings file. It works, but the key
  sits in that file in plain text.

| App | Plan you need | How you sign in | Difficulty |
| - | - | - | - |
| [**Claude**](/mcp/apps/claude) (web, desktop, mobile) | Any plan, including Free (Free allows one custom connector). On Team or Enterprise, an Owner adds it first. | Browser sign-in | ⭐ Easiest |
| [**ChatGPT**](/mcp/apps/chatgpt) (web only) | Plus, Pro, Business, Enterprise or Edu. On Business, Enterprise and Edu, an admin must turn it on. | Browser sign-in | ⭐⭐ Easy, with one extra setting |
| [**Claude Code**](/mcp/apps/claude-code) | A Claude Pro, Max, Team or Enterprise plan, or an Anthropic API account | Browser sign-in | ⭐⭐⭐ One terminal command |
| [**OpenAI Codex**](/mcp/apps/codex) (CLI and IDE) | A ChatGPT plan that includes Codex, or an OpenAI API key | Browser sign-in | ⭐⭐⭐ A settings form in the app, or two terminal commands |
| [**Cursor**](/mcp/apps/cursor) | No specific plan; the Cursor desktop app | Browser sign-in | ⭐⭐⭐ Edit one settings file |
| [**VS Code + GitHub Copilot**](/mcp/apps/vs-code) | GitHub Copilot (Free works). Business or Enterprise seats need an admin to allow MCP. | Browser sign-in | ⭐⭐⭐ A guided command |
| [**Gemini CLI**](/mcp/apps/gemini-cli) | A Google account | Key in settings | ⭐⭐⭐ One terminal command |
| [**Windsurf, Zed, Cline, n8n, Make**](/mcp/apps/other-apps) | Varies | Varies | ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Advanced |

<Info>
  Whichever app you pick, the abilities are the same: the same
  [38 ChatSyncs abilities](/mcp/tools), the same WhatsApp rules, and the same API key.
</Info>

## What's the same everywhere

* **Server address:** `https://mcp.chatsyncs.com/mcp`
* **What you need:** your [ChatSyncs API key](/mcp/api-key) and a ChatSyncs account with a
  connected WhatsApp number.
* **WhatsApp's rules still apply.** Free-text replies only reach someone who messaged you in the
  last 24 hours; outside that window, only an approved template is delivered.
* **Nothing is installed from ChatSyncs.** The server is hosted for you.

## Frequently asked

<AccordionGroup>
  <Accordion title="I use the free version of ChatGPT. Can I connect ChatSyncs?">
    Not today. ChatGPT only allows custom MCP apps on Plus, Pro, Business, Enterprise and Edu
    plans, and only on the web. Claude's Free plan does allow one custom connector, so Claude
    is the free option.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="Can I use ChatSyncs from my phone?">
    With Claude, yes. Add the connector on claude.ai or Claude Desktop, and it's then available
    in the Claude mobile app too. ChatGPT's custom MCP apps are web-only.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="Can I connect more than one app?">
    Yes. Each app connects separately with the same key. Regenerating the key disconnects all of
    them at once.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="My app isn't listed. Will it work?">
    Probably, if it supports remote MCP servers over HTTP. See
    [Other apps](/mcp/apps/other-apps) for the general settings.
